Saw a thread over on my X-wing minis site, about a guy who ONLY will roll dice if they came out of a Crown Royal bag.. Would not roll dice any other way.

I have personally seen other players with similar bugaboos, or superstitions. Such as one gal, who HAD TO wash any die touched by someone else (with one of those portable baby wipe cloths), and another two who when they arranged their dice in front of them, HAD to do so, with the #1 facing up. No matter what the dice was.

So what other hang ups, buggaboos, or superstitions have YOU seen in your gamers?

I have worked very hard to get rid of my dice superstitions.

I used to arrange all my dice with the highest number facing up to "train them". Related, and completely opposite, was tapping them repeatedly on the table with the 1 up to "get the 1s out".

There were the occasional "punishments" for dice that misbehaved... freezers, hammers, etc.

We had a black D20 that rolled a bizarre number of 1's. Like it would roll three 1's in a row. It was crazy. We stopped rolling it.

I have retired many wild dice that came up 1's "too often."

Good idea for a thread, but I moved it to Miscellanea because this applies to gaming in general, not just Star Wars.

I often have players that will trade out a die if it rolls poorly too many times that night. They have no problem picking it up next session, but they feel like they'll have better rolls with change.

Unless the die is actually unbalanced (which I have found with one die after systematic re-rolling and recording results), then it shouldn't make a difference. Random is random.

Oh gawds, this sort of thing is still a running gag with the GM who runs some of my Pathfinder games, especially when I roll badly with that one particular Sapphire Bright Gem d20....

I know it's random, but he keeps (jokingly) insisting that I buy new dice....

Just repurchased the X-Wing and Tie Fighter flight sim games. I forgot how much I missed them.

I've had players who say i need to 'retire permanently' some of my dice, cause they have a lot of tendency when i DM, to roll sixes.. (or 20s, for adnd).. Even though i fluctuate between 23 or so D20s, when i DM.

So, Hackmaster Basic (at least, the print version) has an entire section on rolling dice. How to roll. Ways to improve your luck in a roll. How to properly purge dice of bad luck. Rubbing them on game designers for good luck.

The PDF of Basic is free. If you don't want Drive-Thru, here's Kenzer's site

In local miniatures tournaments they have prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Also, whoever comes in dead last, wins a new set of dice.
