If the term had been used in a quote by one of the characters - as in, “ready the grappling beams,” ordered the captain - that would still be weird, but at least conceivably in the same realm as Anakin calling a lightsaber a “laser sword”. But when it’s the “anonymous narrator”, it’s expected that they’ll use the commonly accepted terminology of the setting.

Or Luke calling droids "robots" in ANH. It's a valid point about grappling beams but I can see how that may not bother some readers. I'm less forgiving of the manuscript not using the metric system.

There was an author effort made to make the continuity conform to the EU, but like I said, a publishing editor would have caught those narrator terminology issues and corrected them, so you can understand why that didn't happen here. This unpublished manuscript was never edited to Star Wars publishing standards.

I wasn't checking myself but I just saw on Facebook that Amazon took it down. On Fb it was said the Amazon bootlegs are now showing up on eBay for hundreds of dollars, which is really stupid because those sellers are profiting big off of unlicensed Star Wars products, eBay is making their cut, and Amazon already made their cut before they realized their error in approving the POD.

Please let this be a good reminder that just because something is for sale through a legitimate websites, that doesn't mean it is valid to sell it. Please do not share links to bootlegged material. Thanks.

Totally understand that. I removed the link from my post a while ago, Whill Smile

I saw, with the note that the link was removed after the novel has been taken off of Amazon. I could have edited out the link of the post when I first saw it, but didn't because I thought it was hilarious and I knew Amazon would pull the plug soon anyway. If the link was still here, it would now be a dead link that goes nowhere.

The point of my last post above was that we can't trust Amazon to determine if something is a bootleg. This is a good example because Amazon, for a short time, sold a bootleg Star Wars book. Even without a link, it is best to not refer to acquiring bootlegged Star Wars stuff here on the forum. Not even 'wink wink, get it while you can.'

Thanks everyone.
