When I am creating stats for established characters from media sometimes I struggle with finding enough material to flesh out a decent character. Case in point is the little information we have concerning Giller a New Republic Senator from the novel, Bloodlines.

Below I have presented what information is available from the wookieepedia article and my take on creating him. Please post how you think I did and constructive advice as needed. Thank!

Senator Giller
Type: Centrist New Republic Senator
Species: Human
Age: 54 Height: 1.78 m Weight: 85 kg
Appearance: A tall, broad-shouldered man of 1.78 m with a weathered, square jaw and a neatly trimmed salt-and-pepper mustache. His dark hair is kept short and combed precisely to one side, revealing a faint scar above his right temple—an old shrapnel wound from the Battle of Yavin. He carries himself with military bearing: shoulders back, head held high. Even in senatorial robes, Giller’s numerous campaign medals and service ribbons are proudly displayed on a polished breastplate beneath his cloak. His keen gray eyes scan every chamber with the alertness of a field commander, and his voice carries a calm but unyielding authority.

Character Points: 8

Equipment: Centrist Senatorial robes, ceremonial medals, blaster pistol (5D), datapad, senate encrypted comlink.

Background: Born on Corulag 54 years ago, Giller enlisted in the Rebel Alliance at the outbreak of the Galactic Civil War. He served with distinction through the liberation of Onderon and the Battle of Endor, earning three valor commendations and promotion to captain. After the war he was handpicked to oversee the decommissioning of remaining Imperial outposts, a task that honed his talent for logistics and disciplined leadership. Transitioning to politics, Giller ran for the Centrist faction on a platform of strong centralized defense and efficient governance. Since taking his seat on Hosnian Prime, he has been instrumental in drafting the New Republic Defense Force’s expansion bills and streamlining supply lines to frontier worlds.

Personality: Giller combines a soldier’s rigor with a statesman’s pragmatism. He’s patient in debate but unafraid to press hard when the Republic’s security is at stake. Colleagues know him as unfailingly courteous—he sends handwritten notes after meetings—but never shy, and he can pivot from warm recollections of comrades lost in battle to steely insistence on military appropriations. He respects tradition and hierarchy, believing that a well-ordered society requires both strong institutions and disciplined citizens. Beneath his formality lies a deep loyalty to those he deems honorable: he once shielded a young Populist senator from a barrage of rhetoric when her life was threatened, and he regards Princess Leia with admiration, even when he disagrees with her more idealistic proposals.

Objectives: Strengthen New Republic security and honor veterans’ service through robust legislation.

A Quote: “We owe our peace to those who fought for it—let no one forget.”

DEXTERITY
Blaster 5D: Years of Rebel combat taught him precision shooting under fire.

Brawling Parry 4D+1: As a former recon-unit commander, Ematt drilled his Shrikes in hand-to-hand defense, using parrying techniques to deflect strikes in close-quarters boarding actions.

Dodge 4D+1: Battlefield survival depended on lightning-fast reflexes to avoid blaster fire.

Melee Combat 3D+2: Close-quarters boarding actions and base security drills honed his hand-to-hand skills.
Vehicle Blasters 4D: Recon insertions and extractions often required suppressive fire from repulsorlift transports or speeders—Ematt’s familiarity with turret-mounted blasters makes him effective in that role.

KNOWLEDGE
Bureaucracy (New Republic) 3D+1: Crafting and shepherding defense legislation demands deep familiarity with senatorial procedure.

Military History 4D: A veteran of countless engagements, he draws on historical precedents to advise on strategy.

Tactics 3D+2: Commanding the Shrikes recon unit and later coordinating demobilization calls for battlefield and logistical planning.

MECHANICAL
Repulsorlift Operation 2D+1: Standard training for Rebel officers included operating repulsorlift transports and speeder bikes during recon missions.

PERCEPTION
Bargain 5D: Securing local support for new bases and negotiating alliances with planetary governments calls on Ematt’s knack for striking deals and leveraging mutual interests.

Command 3D+1: His presence and orders inspire confidence, whether in council chambers or on assault landings.

Communications 3D+2: Coordinating ground teams, starfighter escorts and Senate security details hinges on reliable comms protocols—his years in the Alliance and Resistance sharpened his ability to maintain clear channels under duress.

Investigation 2D+2: Tracking down hidden Imperial holdouts and rooting out sabotage within Senate facilities.

Persuasion 4D+2: Whether rallying reluctant veterans to the Resistance or lobbying fellow senators for defensive appropriations, his booming voice and earnest sincerity carry real weight.

Search 3D: Scouring crash sites or bomb scenes (e.g. Napkin Bombing) for clues.

STRENGTH
Brawling 3D: Trained for hand-to-hand drills as part of Rebel boarding teams and base-clearing operations.

Climbing/Jumping 2D+2: Scaling cliff-side drop-points and leaping between cargo holds during covert entry missions trained Ematt to move nimbly in rugged terrain.

TECHNICAL
Droid Repair 3D+2: Field-refitting astromechs and protocol droids in forward bases kept vital hardware online—his hands-on work with combat droids built this skill.

First Aid 3D+2: As the Shrikes’ platoon leader, Ematt was often the first responder to battlefield injuries, patching wounds and stabilizing comrades until medevac arrived.

Security 3D+1: Overseeing the decommissioning of Imperial outposts and protecting key installations built both technical acumen and counter-sabotage know-how.
