This was actually the game that retired the Far Orbit Fleet. We would have retired sooner, as peace was bad for business, but then got an urgent call from our "Connection" at New Republic Command.

One of the old Rebel Strongholds, where the families of Rebel Soldiers had been found by a fanatic group of Imperials. A good number of them had stayed there, as they've made a life for themselves, and the bases there were converted to training grounds for rookies, and as a retirement spot for Ex-Rebel veterans.

Our orders: Prevent the slaughter of the families until reenforcements can arrive.

We only had the Near Orbit (A Corellian Corvette) and the "Vomit Comets" (Modified Mobiquet Medium Freighters, our Group-Based Troop/Vechicle Transports), but that's our entire ground forces (Well, Marine Corp. We're a Privateer Group), and this was a ground battle.

So, we scream in past their blockaid of Four Dreadnaughts, and get to...

Alamo Base!!!

Ya, our heads hit the table at that point, too.

Anyhow, lots of rigamarole down, we're at a losing point of the battle. The Near Orbit has had it's computers sabotaged, and we've only got the Repulsorlifts and E-Web Emplacements working. The planetary shields are coming down, so we're looking at Orbital Bombardment at any time, and it's time to leave, 'cause we've done all we can.

We load up as many folks as we can, and start getting ready to head out, when a troop of Imperial Commandos lands on the roof of the base, and deploy. Obviously about to attempt an assult on the roof of the "Immobalized" Near Orbit.

We start lifting off, scaring the Force out of the Commandos, when something goes wrong. We start drifting towards the base.

"E-Web 3 to Bridge. We might want some more altitude." "We're trying E-3." "We're going to SCRAPE!!!"

The Near Orbit did, indeed scrape. We drifted towards the roof of the base, hit the "Watchtower" (Walker Strength 7D), which holds, and turns us into a "Windshield Wiper".

The Shuttle, and all the Imperial Commandos get dropped off the roof of the base ("Yes, Ray, one does the Wilheilm Scream." "Ah-WAH!!!" "Yes, that one."), the Corvette does a 270 Degree spin, and drops down. Hard. The Cockpit and part of the frong landing on the ground floor of the base. THROUGH the floors above it.

"That can't be good for the suspension." "The landing gear was up." "Ohhhhhhhhhhh, even worse!"

In the confusion (It's not like the Empire has a standard plan as to what to do in this sort of situation), we were able to sort ourselves out, and perform a fighting retreat to the Vomit Comets, and take off.

Once again, running past the incomplete blockaide, we launch into space... And end up meeting with our Reenforcements. Despite the losses, and the retreat, we still completed our mission!

The Far Orbit fleet never failed in a mission. Even when forced to retreat, we still completed the goals of the mission, and came out despite all odds!

Great story! I'd love to hear more about the group, if you're up to posting them.
