Or, more fun, chase him just a little bit, but just enough so that he thinks he is getting away as he bolts towards the gates faster... why would I do that? Because I am an @$$h0le*. _________________ My backpack has jets!

In my last session we had a battle that was only 15 rounds at most last 2.5 hours due to the fact that we were leading squads against a mining facility. My part took of all 15 minutes. It depends on the people you play with. Sometimes my friends want plan everything, and that can take time. Other times they say, bantha foodu, and through grenades and run like hell. |

It's nice to have things planned out, with all the contingencies (you can think of) covered; but sometimes it really does boil down to a good "Fire in the hole!!!!" yell and a mad dash for safety while the fuse burns down... |

Heck, i have taken the 'planning out' of combat to a level, where i even write out the NPC's first 3 (or so) rounds worth of actions AND their die rolls... usually, 1 dodge/soak and 1 to hit/damage. And if they have a LT or SGT, who has command, he makes it, and then i group them together and make the combined fire rolls. Same with squadrons...
I also have a slot for them to show their Init score...
As they are whittled down, i line that trooper off. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

It can be really fun for those gamers that can think three steps ahead, but not so if the others take hours thinking out there strategy. |

Yeah, that kind of time just puts a big squash on an otherwise good battle scene... |

That's why i use a 1 hand time standard. If it takes you more than my count of 5 fingers (well 4 fingers and a thumb) to come up with your action, you are spending the round just standing there from indecision.. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

Plus, the chess timer is the same time, every time. No chance for randomness in the count. No arguments, either. |

If you can trust you gamers then if there pre-planned action has not changed due to the combat, then they can also pre-roll their numbers to go even faster. |

Good point.
Heck, one of the things i love doing, is for those taking 3 or more actions (especially if they are FPing), is to have them roll them all out, while i deal with other people. So hopefully by the time i am there, they can just read off the numbers.... _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |
