Sounds to me like they're the same thing but if something hasn't been badly damaged enough to be be destroyed it gets called ionized and by that logic unless an ionizing weapon has some sort of special function to ensure the damage isn't permanent I'd assume doing enough damage would destroy electronics even with an ionizing weapon

That said unless you instigate something similar for stun weaponry perhaps it's only fair that ion/emp = stun and if you want to destroy the electronics you use regular weapons just like anyone else.

Well there is this for stun weaponry
Quote:
Physiological effects and dangers
Depending on the design of a stunning device and the biology of the target, various physiological effects could occur upon being stunned. Some victims of a stun blast would remain conscious afterward, keenly aware of their surroundings but unable to move any limbs. Other types would knock a target completely unconscious, for easy transport or to keep a target unaware of movements through an area. Healthy humanoids could recover from a stun blast in as little as ten minutes[1] or as long as several hours, depending on the strength of the stun blast.

Most victims of a stun blast merely experienced nausea, dizziness and body aches for a short time, but the stun setting was not entirely without its dangers. Some settings placed the stunning power at such a high level that there was a heightened possibility of killing the target, especially against Wookiees[2]. Another danger that could occur from stun shots were heart palpitations[3], and the stun tentacles of the JK-13 security droid could also cause irregular heart rhythm. Stun weapons had a greater than fifty percent chance of sparking a miscarriage in pregnant humans.[4] The stun guns carried by Tatooine's Jawas were reputed to also cause temporary color blindness and minor dehydration upon recovery.

Unfortunately yes.. Demp is an EMP.. different than ionization.
Do we know that these are actually different effects as opposed to just different names? Because this makes it sound like the DEMP is an ion gun effect.

I believe EMP and Ionization are vasically the same thing. I did a little reading on wikipedia and apparently ionizing radiation is carried on a electromatic wave. So it appears that the two are the same.

It also appears that the severity of the effect depends on how strong the effect is and how well shielded the target is. So in game terms I think a table like the ion damage table with a kill result tacked on would probably be the best fit.

But I think we should remove Maneuverabilty as the cap for ion results and instead use Body/Hull STR.

Well IRL, ionizing things (such as from a storm) temporarily shuts them down, where as EMP's fry them.
It depends on the situation. Sometimes ionization will shut something down for the duration of the ionization, though in the right circumstances something can de-ionize almost instantly. Of course, the effects could be permanent, or the ionization may not interfere with anything.

The same is true of an EMP, though the duration of the pulse is not likely to be very long.

Yeah, but that isn't becuase the effectis different, but becuase the intensity is. Both create a power surge of radiation. It is just that most of the time we talk about EMP in the real world it is as a side effect to an atomic weapon, and so is ususally much more powerful.

Exactly the point I was getting at! Very Happy
