Can anyone recommend a good free software program to help design deck plans for ships and such? I have an idea for a custom ship that I want to design (kind of a freighter that plays on the SFS line of shuttles in terms of its design features, instead of the usual CEC freighter approach), but I'd like to do it in a software system.

Does anyone know the software suite that folks used to design some of the deck plans in the Baudo custom yacht thread? Ideally, this would be something free...

I've been corresponding with Frank Bonura, of the Star Wars Deckplans Alliance, and he suggested Google Sketch Up.

Hmm. Ok. I'll check it out. Thanks!

Does anyone know of, like, a top-down editing program that does this? I mean where you craft an overhead view of the ship interior. I know Dungeon Designer does some stuff like this and may have tile set, but I was wondering if anyone knew of others.

To clarify, I'm looking for the kind of software you (or someone?) used to make the yacht pictured in your post on the first page of this thread:

I'm not sure there is such a thing; the guy I mentioned above used this style in pretty much all of his deckplans from that era, and he's the one recommending Google Sketch-Up.
