How does the hearing penalty suggest otherwise? If the character is enveloped in a field that disrupts sound waves I can't imagine that there wouldn't be a hearing penalty. _________________ Don't waste money on expensive binoculars.

It covers the ears more tightly than a normal helmet? Why would you make it a helmet if it was a field, you could just make it something attached to your belt?
Edit: Also, its called Sonic Dampening Helmet, not Field _________________ My Biggest Beard Retard award goes to: The Admiral of course.. |

I am wearing the sonic dampening helmet and thus cannot hear this argument. |

Anyways its a bit moot, as people in the end play their own games.. _________________ My Biggest Beard Retard award goes to: The Admiral of course.. |

Yep, and yet some of us still like to argue. |

A fundamental lack of understanding of what a sonic weapon does to cause damage? That's my best guess. _________________ Hotaru no Hishou; a messageboard about games, friends and nothing at all.

Yup. Sometimes the science has to take a back seat to the fiction _________________ Hotaru no Hishou; a messageboard about games, friends and nothing at all.

I think i will make a nasty sonic weapon.. Tape rosanne barr singing 10000 songs and play them..
Then again maybe that would be extreme torture rather than a sonic attack _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

For a good example of how Sonic weapons work, watch Attack of the Clones. Geonosian weapons are sonic based and they do physical concussive damage. |

Finally I found in some Saga-Conversion-what-ever.pdf that sonic weapons work vs. energy protection. |

Real ion engines probably would work as effecticenly as the ones in Star Wars, but just woun7t prvide as much acceleration. THe whole point of ion engines in the real world is that they are much more effcient that most other types of drive. The drawback is that ion drives don't produce a lot of thrust, and would be realtively slow.
But, like you said, it's Star Wars. |

Okay, how about something new?
Sonicweapons ignore armor, but the real damage, after damageroll-strengthroll, is halved? e.g. you roll 22 damage, strengthroll is 16. it's usually 1 wound with 6 damage, but 6/2=3 so only a stunned result.
Against Disruptorweapons you still have your energyprotection, but the damage is doubled. e.g. you roll 22 damage, strengthroll with your energy armor is 20. it's usually only stunned with 2 damage, but 2*2=4 so in the end it's a wound.
But I think the coefficients need some adjustment. Not 0.5 and 2, maybe 0.75 and 1.5.
The main idea or concept is, that with a disruptor you can kill faster unprotected targets (and consider the storyfactor) and with a sonicweapon you can at least hurt those nasty ub0r-armored targets. |
