In the Sourcebook, I'm to the equipment chapter, and I started looking at the slug throwers vs. the blasters.

I'll tell ya. Blasters are damn power hand weapons.

A slugthrower--let's call it a .38 revolver--does 3D damage.

A rifle--let's call it a M-16--does 3D+1 damage.

A submachinegun--let's call it an UZI--does 4D damage.

A small, hold-out blaster does 3D+1!

A typical blaster pistol does 4D.

And, a heavy blaster pistol does 5D damage!

A blaster rifle does 5D.

And, this damage is applied to characters, both human and alien, with defensive STR of 1D to 5D.

That makes a blaster a damn scary weapon, indeed, that is more powerful than most of the common handguns we know of in the real world today (sure there are exceptions--I'm sure the Desert Eagle does some real damage).

Just thinking out loud and putting blasters into perspective.

The power of a blaster is insignificant to the power of the force

Hey, I've been from one side of this galaxy to the other. I've seen a lot of crazy things, but I've never seen anything that would make me believe in some all powerful Force.

the damages for firearms in star wars d6 is wildly inconsistent whereas the damages for the blasters "seems" much more consistent

And with armor already giving people better protection VS projectiles (phys armor protection), i find it strange, they'd also make them Weaker in damage as well.. Its as if they are double penalizing firearms. One in giving them a lower base damage (and usually a lower range than compatible firearms), but THEN penalize them by making armor all have better protection with them on top of it..

How is 3D to 4D "wildly inconsistent" while 3D+1 to 5D "much more consistent"? Did you mean the opposite?

I think you’re forgetting about a few of the other types of firearms that WEG Star Wars published. Like the Morellian .48 Enforcer (6D+1), or the 8-Guage Shotgun (5D). and let us not forget about the Kashyyyk Long Gun (6D+2).

If you compare the real world energy ratings of firearms then you start to see issues with the way firearms damages were done. It's almost like they gave firearms less thought thinking people wouldnt use them.
