For some reason, I have a vague memory of trying to sign up to the Forum pretty early on. I recall it being discussed in the AOL group that a new SWD6 Forum was starting up, and I'm pretty sure I signed up (or at least tried to), but at that point the AOL group was still going great guns and I never followed through. It wasn't until several years later when the AOL group had pretty much died out that I started looking at it again. _________________ "No set of rules can cover every situation. Either that or we're both mistaking the Pit for the SW-RPG Network... _________________ "No set of rules can cover every situation. It's expected that you will make up new rules to suit the needs of your game." - The Star Wars Roleplaying Game, 2R&E, pg. 69, WEG, 1996.

Yeah, there are very few active users who have accounts that date back that far. I didn't think that the forums were in existence until about 2003. Before then there was a guest book on the site, but otherwise it was just a collection of D6 resources where to buy used books, some printouts, a dice roller and a few other odds and ends.
I just looked it up on the wayback machine, and I can't find anything in terms of forums in 99 and 01. Now the SWRPGNetwork was around. Man, that was a hopping site back in its heyday. But iirc it had some technical issues and people couldn't login for a few months. The site never really recovered after that. _________________ __________________________________

Cheshire is correct. Loc Taal was the first forum user account created on June 17, 2003. The next two accounts were on the 19th. The following post is Loc Taal's original welcome to the forums posted on June 19th, 2003...
Loc Taal wrote: | Welcome to The Rancor Pit forums! Thanks for taking the time to stop by. Please browse the forums and join in the discussions. You all have a lot of good ideas to share, and we'd all like to hear them. Again, thanks for stopping by and enjoy the forums! |
From the language, there is no indication of there being a previous forum that stopped and this being a restart. In all of my other recent research and reading of old threads (I basically reviewed all threads in the old Rancor Pit site forum and Forums Info forum), it seems evident that this forum indeed began in June 2003 as a companion to Loc Taal's original Rancor Pit site which had info on his personal campaign and general utilities. (The Wayback Machine doesn't have any archive for the original Rancor Pit site before early 2001.)
I'm sorry I can't offer any personal memories. I myself didn't even get online outside of work until 2002 and probably started at StarWars.com forums (remember them?). At sometime by 2005 I made my way to the official WEG forums which still existed at the time, and made the transition to the WEG Fan Forum. I believe I may have began occasionally lurking here in 2005 but didn't join until 2008. _________________ *

Only some of it is for D6 Star Wars.
Just repurchased the X-Wing and Tie Fighter flight sim games. I forgot how much I missed them. |

I'd be hitting this if my mental health hadn't crapped out and scared me away from forums. |
