There is a known issue where forum URLs that somehow previously generated without "www." in front of the "rancorpit.com" do not (or no longer) work. Some of these appear in posts with links to other specific posts.

If you click on a link and it only brings up the forum index page, then X out of that tab and go back to the post where the link was. Copy the URL in the link, paste it into a new tab, and manually add "www." in front of the "rancorpit.com". Then you should be able to navigate there.

If your post is one that has an invalid link in it, then you can edit the post to correct the URL in the link. I have posted tons of links in the forum over the years and I will correct any that need corrected as I come across them.

Going forward, when you post a link to another forum post, make sure it has the URL has the "www." before the "rancorpit.com", and test the link after you post it to confirm it works as intended.

I apologize for the inconvenience. Thank you.

EDIT: See below for more details about the problem and solutions.

CRMcNeill and I are the only two people I know who have experienced this issue. Perhaps forum URLs without the "www." not always working right is just an Apple/Mac/iPhone issue.

When I first posted this thread, I had thought that the website rendering URLs without the "www." was just a past issue, but I came across one new instance since this issue was first identified. It may be rare, but it can still happen.

Even if it is rare going forward, there could be hundreds of past posts that have inadequate URLs in links to forum threads and posts. Here is a more detailed example of the issue. Both of the following URLs refer to this thread:

https://www.rancorpit.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=9313
https://rancorpit.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=9313

Links like the top work as intended. According to my experience, forum links like the bottom can (1) work normally, (2) bring up the page in another tab but you are not logged into the Pit on that tab, or (3) the new tab autoforwards past the correct page to the Rancor Pit Index page.

If you click on a Rancor Pit forum link and the 2rd instance occurs, you can just manually add the "www." at the correct point into the URL bar at the top of your browser, and then it will take you to the page reflecting that you are logged in.

If you click on a Rancor Pit forum link and the 3rd instance occurs, you can go back to the original page with the link, right click over it and copy the URL address. Then bring up new tab in your browser and paste the URL into the URL bar, but then manually add the "www." at the right place in the URL, and then go to the page.

If there is a forum link in your own post that does not have the "www." in the URL, please edit your own post and update the URL by adding the "www." into the URL of the link.

If you are posting a new post with with forum link in it, please make sure the URL has the "www." in the first place. Before submitting your post, test your links in the Preview post mode to ensure they have the "www." in the correct spot and link as intended.

I have been editing my own posts with forum links here and there, but it is a massive endeavor and I may never get them all.

Links to non-forum pages on the Rancor Pit domain (Library Index, Library documents, hosted images, etc.) do not seem to need the "www." in the URL for it to work, so as far as I know, this only applies to URLs referring to forum threads and individual posts.

I'm sorry for the inconvenience. Please share if you have any questions or issues this does not solve. Thank you.
