I think the armor's bonus against physical damage should be counted, unless you rule no because it only effects torso or head and the whole body should be considered. This is Star Wars and most of the armor in the movies are made from a very strong plastic-like substance. Now if a character falls wearing a full metal suit of mideval "platemail" type of armor, maybe the armor would actually cause more damage. But who in Star Wars is gonna wear full plate armor?
As far as falling from 40 stories wearing stormtroopper armor, sure you can take the bonus, but is the bonus really gonna help much for the end result? Probably not. Character survival is gonna depend more on the use of character/Froce points, or some other good luck designed by the GM.
All that being said, my cousin somehow survived a skydiving parachute-failure accident, free falling from between 31-50 meters. He had a serious concussion and temporary amnesia, but eventually had a near-full recovery. I think he used a Force Point. _________________ *

Sure they spread the damage over a larger area but it's not quite the same as turning a blade. |
Check out SCA heavy fighting, good armor can stop full swings with little to no pain to the person being hit.
As to falling damage, if it can move, it can break (knees, elbows, etc) Also, any armor would be damaged and probably unuseable, plus weapons, equipment, and thermal detonators
I'd give them the armor bonus, but I doubt it would let them walk away without a scratch. |

Just ouch. I picture it like this for a really strong character : "Okay, you barely survive the fall...but the thermal detonator strapped to your belt explodes, shooting your *rolls damage vs. strength check* now dead body, back up into the air, falling back down...but guess what, the OTHER thermal detonator explodes too..." _________________ "I believe the Jedi are weak so they give up their emotions. I had a character who almost had that happen. Though it was not from falling. He jet packed into the enemy, and was looking to go through their inferno (incendiary grenades) screen,. All with 2kg of thermite plasticine in his belt pouch holder...... _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

Not all... 2 of the lead squads, who were the regulars... the veteran squad were in the rear lobbing the incendiary grenades creating a break between them and the party, which was imo tactically smart as the party had cornered themselves in a cull de sac. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |
